John East

The director of Just Enough, and all it’s productions to date.

John graduated from Central School of Speech & Drama in 2012, having studied the Performance Arts pathway of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice.

Before Central, John worked for the Theatre Royal Bath, as an assistant director for it’s Young People’s Theatre under director Lee Lyford. Since 2009 John has been on the Board of Directors for the Theatre Royal Bath.

As well as directing, John has also devised and performed with David Hoyle at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, and with Sian NiMhuiri and the Hungry Men.

Personal Statement:

My directing process is research driven, and I often have an authorial role in the scripting process, either as editor or writer. This approach has led to an interest in creating verbatim performance.

The theatre I make is multidisciplinary – I work visually, and incorporate music and dance theatre to convey narrative alongside text and more naturalistic performances.

I am passionate about inclusion and equality, and I work with diverse casts of mixed experiences and abilities. I particularly enjoy making theatre within communities.
